Our Evolution: From The Blackstone Group to iLevel Solutions

iLevel originated from within The Blackstone Group, which experienced firsthand the accuracy, timeliness and transparency challenges created by manual collection of portfolio company data. Today, our equity investors also include Egis Capital Partners, Madison, NJ; Swift River Investments, Bolton, MA; and Epiphany Ventures, Mumbai, India. The company secured a $6 million round of funding in July 2010.

iLevel Solutions exists today because Blackstone saw the need to address the challenges of manual data collection. In response, Blackstone’s management and information technology team developed and successfully launched the first Portfolio Management Platform for internal use in 2006.

Increasingly stringent requlatory requirements cemented the need for a solution that could automate the industry’s still-manual processes and produce clear, consistent and timely reporting of company-level data. At the same time, market forces led to increasing demand for transparent reporting to regulatory authorities and to Limited Partners.

Given the magnitude of the challenges facing the PE industry (and other alternative investment sectors), Blackstone spun out iLevel as an independent entity in January 2009. Blackstone and the iLevel team realized the efficacy of its solution would benefit from broader access to industry participants – and also realized that iLevel could thrive as a business with unencumbered access to customers and prospects.

Thus, iLevel was formed to further develop, and make widely available, the high-value Software-as-a-Service solution for private equity firms that had gestated at Blackstone. Today, iLevel provides the leading Portfolio Management Platform for the private equity industry, counting a growing number of the world’s leading PE firms among its customers.
